Will I Make A Great Surrogate?

Are you considering becoming a Surrogate? Surrogacy is a great way to give a deserving couple or individual the gift of starting or growing their family. The first question that comes to many women’s mind when considering becoming a Surrogate is whether or not they would make a good Surrogate. The simple answer – if you enjoyed being pregnant, and you wish to help another family become whole, then the answer is yes!  And we understand that this is a very personal, life-changing decision. That’s why we decided to create a list of questions that you should ask yourself to determine whether or not you are ready to become a Surrogate.

1. Do I Meet Simple Surrogacy’s Surrogate Requirements?

The first step to determining if you would make a great Surrogate is meeting our requirements. At Simple Surrogacy, we have a list of qualifications that our Surrogates must meet. Our goal is to keep our Surrogates safe and the baby healthy during the process. In order to be qualified to work with our agency as a Surrogate, you must:

  • Be a citizen or legal resident or legal immigrant of the United States
  • Be between the ages of 21-40 (Traditional Surrogates must be under 35)
  • Have given birth to a child of your own
  • Have had uncomplicated pregnancies and deliveries
  • Be height-weight proportionate (BMI must be under 33)
  • Have experienced a full-term pregnancy and delivery
  • Be able to pass a background check
  • Be willing to take medications via injection
  • Not have any psychiatric illness or take medications for depression or anxiety
  • Enjoy pregnancy and be motivated by the wish to help others create or add to their family

For a complete list of our qualifications, please visit our website.

2. Am I Healthy Enough to be a Surrogate?

A big factor to consider when choosing to become a Surrogate is whether or not you are physically and mentally capable to do so. As listed above, many of our qualifications to become a Surrogate are based around your health. If your previous pregnancies were carried to term without complications, this is a good sign that you are healthy enough to become a Surrogate. Before you begin your journey with Simple Surrogacy you will need to sign HIPAA forms so that we can gain access to your medical records. Regardless of your previous pregnancies, we will still perform a thorough medical screening to ensure that you and the baby will be safe during the journey. We take extra steps to ensure that you are healthy enough to undergo a full-term pregnancy, because we put your safety and the safety of the baby above everything else.

3. Am I Ready to Commit to the Surrogacy Process?

The next step is to determine whether or not you are ready to commit to the surrogacy process. This is a big decision that will impact you for the next year, and depending on the agreement, the years to follow. Surrogacy involves more than your past pregnancies. It involves additional screenings, more frequent appointments, as well as emotional challenges. That is why it is very important that you have read and understood the surrogacy process, as well as all of its legal, medical, and social implications.

Understanding the process fully is very important, and that is why, in our initial Surrogate qualifications, we list that all Surrogates must:

  • Be willing to review your surrogacy agreement with a licensed attorney (at IP’s expense)
  • Be willing to adhere to all contractual obligations throughout the process
  • Be able to pass a background check
  • Have read and understood the surrogacy process

Becoming a Surrogate is the most selfless thing you can do for another family. Once you fully understand what the process entails, a beautiful journey awaits you!

4. Do I Have a Strong Support System?

Becoming a Surrogate is a large commitment. You must devote time, energy, and effort to the process. This also involves help from those around you. Having a strong support system is an extremely large part of being a great Surrogate.

It is important to discuss your desire to become a Surrogate with your significant other. Although it is your body, they will be an important part of the journey. You must also discuss with them how you plan to explain the process to your children. That is why, when applicable, Simple Surrogacy lists having the support of your spouse or partner as a qualification to become a Surrogate.

5. Why Do I Want to Be a Surrogate?

The final, and one of the most important questions you need to ask yourself, is why you want to become a Surrogate in the first place. Having the right drive and motivation is a very important component to becoming a great Surrogate. That is why one of our Surrogate qualifications is that you enjoy pregnancy and are motivated by the will to help others create or add to their family. It is completely reasonable to want to be compensated for becoming a Surrogate. It is important however, that you have a desire to help another family in the most selfless way possible.
