Tips for your First Surrogate Baby

Tips for your First Surrogate Baby

Starting a family is a big decision with many positive rewards. Although fulfilling, the process of having a surrogate baby can be overwhelming. In order to alleviate some of the stress, we’ve compiled a list of tips to help you with your first surrogate baby!

Seek Advice

It is important to know that you’re not going on this journey alone. There are many people who have taken the road to parenthood before, even if it was not through surrogacy. Whether you decide to seek advice from friends, family, or other parents, this advice can help you become a better parent and also answer any questions that you may have. Simple Surrogacy offers an Intended Parent facebook group, with hundreds of members, where you can post for advice or assistance.

Use Surrogacy Resources

There are so many surrogacy resources out there, so use them. When you have your first surrogate baby with Simple Surrogacy, you will gain access to our community of surrogate parents. These individuals are knowledgeable and willing to share tips, tricks, and advice to help you succeed on your journey.

Prepare

Prepare, prepare, prepare! When having a surrogate baby you must ensure that you are prepared! From packing a bag to bring to the hospital, to getting your new baby’s room ready, being prepared will not only help you be emotionally strong for the baby, it will also help ease anxiety when you finally bring your baby home. We provide lists to assist you in your registry.

Sleep

Your baby needs sleep to grow and you need sleep to care for your baby! Although you won’t be getting as much sleep as you did before the baby arrived, it is important to still get as much sleep as possible. You can do this by taking shifts with your partner or even by napping when your baby naps!

Play Music

Music is a great way to calm down a baby. There are many studies that discuss the benefits of playing music for a baby, even when they are not yet born! Calming music can help with your child’s sleep patterns, mood, and development. Plus, it can also have a calming effect on you!

Accept Help

Help is not the enemy! Many people treat help like it is accepting defeat, but it is the opposite. Accepting help is a big step in any journey and it can have great benefits. From help in the kitchen to help running errands, there is nothing wrong with telling the people you love that you need some assistance and allowing them to help you.

‘You’ Time

Make time for you! You time is extremely important, especially when you are a new parent. Even if you carve out 10 minutes a day for you to do something that you love, it will make a huge difference in your life!

Pack Extra

It is important to always have a bag packed and to fill it with extra baby clothes as well as an extra set of clothes for yourself! Nothing is worse than having baby spit up on your clothes and being stuck in them all day.

Feeding

Did you know that in some surrogacy arrangements, the surrogate will provide breast milk for the baby? This means that even though the woman who carried the child is not the child’s parent, you can still choose to breastfeed your child.

Daily Rituals

Having some daily rituals is a great way to connect with your child. These rituals don’t have to be long or complicated, but doing something together at the same time every day, such as reading a book before bed, can be great for your relationship!
