Questions to Expect From Others When You Announce You’re Pregnant for Someone Else!

Becoming a surrogate is a beautiful and selfless thing to do for another couple or individual. You are providing them with the gift of a child to grow their family. Many people, however, will have questions about the process and why you chose to become a surrogate. Here are some questions with answers that you can expect when you announce that you’re becoming a surrogate!

What Do Your Kids Think?

Many people ask Surrogate Mothers how their children will feel about them being pregnant. We believe that Surrogacy is an experience not only for the Surrogate Mother but for their entire family! No matter the age of your children, Surrogacy is a great way to teach your children about the importance of helping another individual or couple. The individual or couple you are helping cannot have a baby of their own, so you are stepping up to help! This is something that you should be excited to share with your family.

Children also take cues from their parents. If you raise them and surround them with actions that help others, they will know that doing something for someone else isn’t out of the ordinary! They will simply accept it as the way that all humans should treat other humans!

Many surrogates have even noticed older children helping them around the house while they are pregnant. From cleaning to laundry, errands to dinner, their children have helped make their mother’s selfless pregnancy easier! Younger children, however, may not be able to understand that the baby will not be their little brother or sister. It is important to reinforce this fact with them and educate them about surrogacy and what it means. There are plenty of materials online that can help with this!

How Can You Just Give the Baby Away?

This is, unfortunately, one of the most common questions that Surrogate Mothers get. Some people aren’t educated on the Surrogacy process and all that it entails. Many people may think that you are being heartless by giving the baby to the intended parents after they are born… but this is not the case. The baby that the Surrogate is carrying is not hers in any way and she’s never looked at it as such! This is the difficult part for people to understand. The surrogate is not bonded to the baby, but is instead bonded with the Intended Parents, and the gift she is giving them of their family.

This means that the baby has no genetic relationship to the Surrogate. The Surrogate is simply carrying and nurturing the baby until it is ready to enter the world!

All Surrogates are aware of the process when they begin and the fact that the baby is not theirs. In order to ensure that this is clear to the Surrogate, all Surrogates must undergo a psychological evaluation before they become a Surrogate. This helps ensure that they are emotionally ready for the process.

Do The Intended Parents Tell You What To Do?

The Surrogacy process is outlined from start to finish before pregnancy even occurs. Legal documents are signed and all wishes are voiced from the Intended Parents to the Surrogate. This means that a set of terms have been agreed upon by both parties before the process begins. These terms can include a plan for the pregnancy, delivery, and even relationships after the child is born.

Some legal agreements that have conditions during the pregnancy that include eating organic foods, limiting travel, and other items. In return for following these guidelines, the Intended Parents will arrange for additional funds to cover the associated costs that will be incurred by the Surrogate. These agreements make sure that there are no surprises for either party along the journey.

At Simple Surrogacy, we work hard to match Surrogates and Intended Parents based on their similarities. If we have a Surrogate that is vegan we will try to match them with Intended Parents that are also vegan. This means fewer restrictions and more love between both parties!

Would You Be A Surrogate Again?

Many people want to know whether or not you will be a surrogate again after your current pregnancy. This isn’t a question that you should feel pressured to answer. Many Surrogates wait to decide after the baby is born and in the Intended Parents arms whether or not they will repeat their Surrogacy journey. This moment is a moment that can only be appreciated once you have experienced it. Other Surrogates decide that they will only go on a single Surrogacy journey. There is nothing wrong with that! Becoming a Surrogate at all is something to be proud of, regardless of the number of babies that you choose to carry.

What Qualities Do You Have To Be A Surrogate?

At Simple Surrogacy, all of our Surrogates must meet a list of requirements in order to apply to become a Surrogate. Some of the requirements include:

  • Between the ages of 21-45
  • Have given birth to a child of your own
  • Have had uncomplicated pregnancies and deliveries
  • Be in a stable living situation
  • Be able to pass a background check
  • Have reliable transportation (Doctor’s Appointment)
  • Not have any psychiatric illnesses or take medications for depression or anxiety

After you meet the initial list of requirements, you will undergo screening. This includes both a medical screening and a psychological screening. Once you meet all of our criteria, then you will be able to be matched with Intended Parent(s).
