Frequently Asked Questions Before Becoming an Egg Donor

Simple Surrogacy welcomes new egg donors and strives to make the process of egg donation pleasant and uncomplicated. Our subsidiary, Simple Donations, handles the egg donor process for donors and intended parents. If you are contemplating becoming an egg donor, you likely have some questions about the egg donation process. Below are some of the most common questions women who are considering becoming egg donors ask us.

1.    Is egg donation painful?

Egg donation is typically not a painful process. The hormonal medications you will receive to stimulate follicular development may cause some abdominal cramping and discomfort. In extremely rare cases, Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome may occur, causing enlargement of the ovaries. Generally, however, most women won’t experience pain with egg donation.

2.    If I become an egg donor, will I still be able to have children of my own later?

The answer to this question is yes! Because a woman has approximately 400,000 follicles by the time she reaches puberty, and only 400 of these will reach maturity and be released in ovulation, you will have plenty of eggs left over for your own usage later on if you become an egg donor. Don’t worry—if you decide to become an egg donor, you will not run out of eggs!

3.    Can I remain anonymous to the intended parents?

Anonymity is a choice that you can make if you become an egg donor with Simple Surrogacy. It is up to you if you want to remain anonymous, have an open donation, or have a semi-open donation. If you choose to remain anonymous, which most egg donors do, you will receive no information about the intended parents, nor will they receive information about you. If you choose semi-open donation, some basic information will be exchanged between you and the intended parents. In an open donation, you will receive information about the intended parents, and they will receive information about you. Under this type of donation, you will be able to review profiles of intended parents before agreeing to be matched with them, and are encouraged to communicate with them before, during, and after the egg donation process. We at Simple Surrogacy value the privacy of our surrogacy and egg donor community and do the utmost to protect it.

4.    If I decide to become an egg donor, will I be allowed to have sexual intercourse?

If you choose to become an egg donor with Simple Surrogacy, you must agree to refrain from sexual intercourse for a short period of time. After the egg retrieval process, you should not have sexual intercourse until your next period because the chances of you becoming pregnant will be increased.

5.    How much money can I make as an egg donor with Simple Surrogacy?

Compensation for egg donors varies based upon the surrogacy agency, your experience, education and demand. An inexperienced, first-time egg donor can expect to make $5500 with Simple Surrogacy, with all expenses and legal fees paid. Experienced egg donors can make between $7000 and $10,000, based on education and prior success.
